Mike, Greenwood, SC - Dr. Broggi, regarding false prophets and improper teachings within the various churches, I was wondering how those subjects relate to the teachings of Catholicism, the Church of God and especially the Church of Christ. I have friends and family in all three and would like to get more educated on how to carry on discussions regarding the contradictions to scriptures they teach. Joseph, Port, St. Lucie, FL - I have a friend who is a Baptist pastor and we were recently discussing supersessionism. His criticism of God’s redemptive plan for Israel was ‘how Jewish do you have to be to be considered a part of it? what if you are half, or 1/3 Does that count?” I answered that God would know and that’s all that should matter, but I was wondering what your take is on that? Unrelated to that, I’m curious if there’s a good study Bible you like and recommend.

I have recently moved but I am still a member of a Baptist church that practices a congregational form of governance. However, in conversations with those who advocate for an elder-led model, I’ve noticed a common perspective that deacons are not considered for a formal office of the church but rather function simply as servants without an office—a role that may be filled by both men and women. This seems to differ from my understanding of passages such as Acts 6 and 1 Timothy 3, which appear to present the diaconate as a distinct office with specific qualifications, reserved for men. Many use Phoebe as an example in Romans 16:1 which deaconess, in Greek, is translated to mean servant, while 1 Timothy 3:8 deacon or is translated as deacon, a specific elevated role. Could you help clarify how these passages should be understood in relation to the office (or role) of deacons, and how these fit within different models of church polity?
