The Bible Line - January 30, 2018

Dick, Bluffton, SC - It appears there are six references to the office of Deacon (singular) in scripture including four in letters written by Timothy. The other references are a general one in Philippians and a specific one in Romans 16:1 of Phoebe, a woman. Given the specific use of the word "wife" by Timothy when laying out qualifications for a Deacon in 1 Timothy 3:2 (inferring a Deacon would be male) is their disagreement between Paul and Timothy on gender as a qualification for the office of Deacon?

Naples, Fl - Isn't depression something that can be overcome through dependence and discipline? Through depending on God and disciplining ones' self to be in the word in order to transform thought patterns. I have a friend who is suffering from depression and resorted to taking anti-depressants, this has cost her her job and many other things. She is a born again believer but I feel that her dependence on her pills takes the place of her seeking the root of her depression. What are your thoughts on this subject? I feel like we as believers can’t just accept depression and remain in that state knowing God’s promises. How can I speak to her about this?

A caller would like to know if America has a place in end times prophecy?  If not, is this fact recognized and taught in the major denominations in this country?  And further, if America does not have a place in end times prophecy, why do these denominations continue teaching the lifestyles and apostasy in this nation?
