The Bible Line - December 4, 2018

Joyce, Rincon, GA - We have a son who is talking about going to Buckhead Church in Atlanta. I see online that this church's senior pastor is Andy Stanley. I have never listened to him but have heard some disturbing things about him. Our son also lives close to Michael Youseff's Church of the Apostles. I am planning on pointing him to this church. What are your thoughts on this church? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions for a church in the Buckhead area.

Matthew Oak Ridge, TN - Hi Dr. Broggi, I am a recovering alcoholic. I lived many years, over a decade, unsure of my relationship and standing with the Lord. I have a friend, who is now a minister, who was saved over 10 years ago after listening to your message on Would you like to know God as your friend. He passed this along to me. A couple weeks back I watched the sermon. It took almost 3 hours to get through it. I was looking everything up and writing everything down. I had prayed prayers many times. Walked aisles. I have been baptized 3 times. But I never had assurance. I was whipped by addiction and my marriage was falling apart. My wife called the cops on me a few weeks prior. After watching your sermon, I believed in Christ. I understood and simply believed. And for the first time in a long time, I know that I belong to God. I am saved. I have also been sober for close to a month now. My wife and I have resolved to stay and there has been no arguing. I just wanted to say thank you for your preaching and clarity. My question is: What resources do you recommend to help me along in discipleship and learning how to read and study the bible. I have been reading my Ryrie Study Bible in the NKJV and NIV translations. Is there a particular Bible or translation you would suggest?

If a pastor or teacher is teaching heresy (in this case, that you can lose your salvation) am I right to call this individual out as being cursed as outlined in Galatians 1:8?  And if the whole congregation continues to follow this heretic, are they equally cursed?

Chris, Decorah, Iowa - Have you heard of Kent Hovind and if so what do you think of his work? Also what publication of the NASB do you use pastor?
