Mothering From The Heart - September 4, 2013

Summary
Audrey,
Two young mothers recently asked me about the book Created to Be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl. I have never read the entire book, but I remember having concerns about some of her statements. Have you read the book? Would you comment on Pearl's approach to biblical womanhood?
Audrey,
I spend most of my time caring for my husband, kids and our home. What are some practical daily ways, routines, etc to take care of myself?
Hi Audrey! I recently heard a christian radio broadcast about parenting and the need for parents to give children space as they are growing. The man being interviewed used the term 'helicopter parenting' and said that this surely was not an effective way to parent. As a homeschool mom, I was a bit perplexed over this term and wondered if I am a 'helicopter mom'. I feel as though I give my children space in our home to make mistakes and stumble but I wondered if homeschooling gives ample opportunities for kids to be led by their decisions enough. Could you give insight into your views on home education? Would you consider it to be a form of 'helicopter parenting'? Thank you for your godly wisdom and insight!
Audrey,
If there is time, I think it would be great to discuss the importance of having solid relationships with our husbands, not letting our children overtake every area of our lives where we have nothing left to give our spouses. Obviously there are seasons when our attention is primarily fixed on our child (infancy or during a troubling time), but I'm talking about women who don't work on having an excellent marriage. I don't think they realize the implications of neglecting this.
This really seems to be a big problem right now. Women want to be great mothers, but don't understand that part of being a great mother is being an excellent wife. Our children need to see that we really love the spouse God has given us. Women don't seem to understand that children find security when their parents have a healthy marriage.
